The Craftsman - Rust
“Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort.” - John Ruskin
The best learned lessons come from the most difficult tests. 2020 has certainly been a year for that. It has been a year that has taught us to appreciate the little things, that we are not as immune to hardship as we once thought, and that we can, and will, do hard things well. Our December sock is usually a love letter to our subscribers, thanking all of you for another year of supporting us in what we love and take pride in most, which is making amazing socks and offering even better service.
While we still have that deep gratitude for all of you, we also want to take this opportunity to specifically call out the people that make Sock Club great - our employees, and, specifically, the people in our mills that work tirelessly every day to make the highest quality products possible.
The Industrial Revolution in Great Britain brought about efficiency, and certainly brought about the next era of great invention, but it also brought about sameness and over-manufactured design. The Arts and Crafts movement was a direct reaction to that - espousing a return to design, hand-crafted quality, and respect for a job done with care.
Your December sock, The Craftsman, is a love letter not only to the people who work so hard to make these socks every day, but also to all of us who take pride in our work, and believe in putting our best foot forward. 2020 has definitely provided Sock Club with some difficult tests, but the lessons that we have learned are worth any hardship. Thank you for sticking with us. We look forward to putting in the work to make 2021 our best year yet.
